Christmas Holiday Time and Lights

For most people, no matter what their religious affiliation or preference, the Christmas time holiday season is the highlight of the year.  It may have varying significance to each, but all like to celebrate.  Hanukkah is a remembrance of faith, renewal, and restoration.  Kwanzaa is all about remembrance and celebration.  And Christian Christmas (about the baby Jesus, not Santa Claus) is about a brightness of hope and faith confirmed.  (Ok, Santa does some of that too.)

Christmas and lights, they’re as inseparable as peanut butter and jelly, turkey and Thanksgiving, or Easter and decorated eggs.  Lights are a powerful symbol to religions, individuals, and daily living.  Even as regular old daily objects, lights are special, necessary, and almost impossible to live without.  Maybe that’s why they’re even more effective as symbols.

Lights help fear go away by illuminating the way. A star on the top of a tree doesn’t just represent the star of Bethlehem that showed the way to the Christ child, it is also a beacon that calls out and gathers in family to share and bask in its glow.  Colored lights twinkling are like looking up at the night sky while wishing, and a bright silvery moon is perfect for dreaming.  Any light in a dark or unfamiliar place gives hope.  As the sun comes up each morning and we feel its warmth we feel renewed and restored.  Lights are cheerful, joyful, bright, and gay.  They warm your thoughts and prepare the best ways.

Time for a Christmas holiday challenge…

Go out.  Look at the lights.  Feel the holiday vibe.  Enjoy everyone’s joy and share in all the best traditions (especially the foods!).  Maybe you’ll even decide to add a few new traditions to your own.  Most of all suck up all of the joy and the hope.  Recharge and renew yourself with peace, love, best wishes, and goodwill to and from all mankind.  Follow the festive holiday lights into your own bright new year.  And as always, our entire crew here at Genius Solutions wishes you and yours all the best this holiday season and for the New Year.

The Best Presents

Sometimes the best presents are the ones we allow ourselves.

Christmas time is special.  No matter what your religious affiliations (or not) are, no matter how much you love or hate shopping or snow, Christmas time is the best time of the year.  It’s a shame that it has become so commercialized, politicized, and contentious in word and symbol that it has become nearly ostracized.  For such a civilized society we often aren’t very civilized.

Civilization is people coming together and working together for common sustaining goals and purposes.  One of civilizations definitions is listed as “intellectual, cultural, and moral refinement”.  It sounds a lot like people coming together and improving to become a better mankind.  Of late, rather than coming together at Christmas, people are using it as an excuse to wage a battle to separate, rather than unify, and to cause us to become uncivilized.

Happy Doctors' Day! We at Genius Solutions Salute You.

We hope that someone has sent a red carnation to you, as it is the symbolic flower for National Doctor's Day.

National Doctors' Day is March 30th.  According to the web site, http://www.doctorsday.org/, it was first observed in Winder, Georgia, in 1933.  Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, set aside a day to honor physicians; greeting cards were sent and flowers were placed on the graves of deceased doctors.

Doctors' Day was adopted by the United States House of Representatives, on March 30, 1958, and legislation was introduced and passed in the House and Senate in 1990 to officially establish a national Doctor's Day. On October 30, 1990, President George Bush signed S.J. RES. #366 (which became Public Law 101-473) officially and lawfully designating March 30th as "National Doctor's Day."

Keep up the good work!  Most of us wouldn’t be happy or healthy without you.

Genius Attendee Winner Chosen!

We had our quarterly drawing for clients who participated and filled out an “Attendee Information Form” (in one of our training classes). The lucky winner is Kelly Denny from Farmbrook Radiology, who attended a class in November 2009.  Kelly is the winner of a $100 Target Card, which is on its way to her as I post this.

Pink Gloves: Hospital staff goes wild for breast cancer awareness

I’m glad to see that you medical professionals don’t take yourselves too seriously. I’m also glad to see that you do take your causes seriously. If you haven’t seen it already I highly recommend the following “Pink Glove Dance” video to the tune “Down”, from the hospital personnel and support staff over at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. Enjoy!
