Flash of Genius February 2017: Ransomware

THOMAS...

Shared Genius

Practice Solutions

From one genius to another.

February 2017

Hostage Crisis

Instead of giving you another boring lecture on backups, I'm going to give you a story about being held hostage.... and this hostage could be you, in an instant.

Imagine using your computer, you're just getting ready to log another visit when suddenly, your computer pops up a note that says "All of your files have been locked. If you want to restore them, you have 30 min to pay $1000 in bitcoin to XXX. If you pay the fee within 30 min you will get a key to decrypt your files, if not all of your files will be permanently locked."

85th Annual IPMA Fall Conference - Indy Rocks!

City Circle, Indianapolis
Helllllooo Indiana!

May and I (Penny- blog editor and Genius news girl) had the opportunity to hang out with you at the IPMA Fall conference this last weekend at the Hyatt in Indianapolis.  We had a blast!  On Friday we had the opportunity to speak with the Track #1 Assistants about EHRs and the current status of meaningful use, stimulus, how to make a plan, and what it will take to make the change in their offices.  We were also in the exhibit area showing off our new touchscreen EHR which has been especially built, from the ground up, for podiatry.

Touch Screen THOMAS EHR!

Thanks for having us; we enjoyed meeting and speaking with you all.  If you were at the show, but didn't get a chance to grab our coupon-flier for the new touchscreen EHR, please contact May Kamon here at Genius and she'll take care of you.

P.S. If you would like to see more pictures, please visit our Genius Solutions facebook page.

Genius Focus Group- Warren (with goodies)

By Penny H, Genius blogster, news editor, & Focus Group participant

Wow, it was a whirlwind week last week.  It took me the entire weekend for my head to come back to earth and settle down.  Warren was a lot of fun!  The dynamic was a bit different in Warren because we had so many more people.  We also tried a different room setup, instead of rows of chairs and tables we were able to try a giant horseshoe of chairs and tables so that everyone could see each other and we could see them.  I think I can safely say that all of those who presented really liked it, and the comments coming back from you were that the layout was equally well-liked by you.  It seemed odd at first, having a giant space in the middle, but it really was much easier for all of us, to well, see all of us.   I just wanted to give a quick review with some tips for those that were there (or were not able to be there).  I'll also be giving you a link to download the printed materials we gave out (.pdf) so you can have it on your computer, or be able to print out more copies if needed.

Genius Focus Group- Mt. Pleasant

Yeah, we had our first Focus Group meeting yesterday.  Sherri and I (aka me, Penny, Genius blogster) were out in Mt. Pleasant yesterday.  We would like to give a shout out to everyone who came out the Mt.Pleasant Focus Group yesterday.  It was a great group, with a very relaxed atmosphere at the golf resort; they made us feel very welcome and very comfortable.  We hope we did the same for them.

We have a Winner, Chicago Conference Follow-up

Yeah!  We have our Acer Netbook winner from the Chicago, Midwest Podiatry Conference:

Brennan Reed, DPM, of Quincy, IL.  Congratulations Dr. Reed!

The Chicago travel team (May, Ray, and April) just wanted me to put a few words in to the blog to let you know how much they enjoyed meeting so many of you at the show.  They are already fighting to see who gets to take the road trip next year.

As far as our new EHR, it is currently a work-in-progress, but we were ecstatic to let you try out what we have and hear your reactions to it. Your feedback to us, was that the new THOMAS podiatry touch screen EHR, looked great and was different from anything that you had seen. You made the programmers blush.  They are back to slaving away on it with double enthusiasm knowing that you like it.  So, expect even better things at the next show.

*Also, special thanks to April for snapping these photos in Chicago.
