This makes it difficult and unlikely that if someone came across one of those "statement files" that they would ever be able to get any information from it. When a file is encrypted, it is like putting a complicated, combination lock on it. If someone intercepts the file, they don't have the combination key, so they won't be able to read the data. Only someone with the key will be able to access and read the file.
